The Nordic Society for Middle Eastern Studies (NSM) is an independent and non-profit association for scholars in the Nordic countries – Denmark, Finland, Norway, Sweden, and Iceland – working on the Middle East. It covers all subjects in the humanities and social sciences, from antiquity to the present day. Currently, the Society has some 200 members in Denmark, Finland, Iceland, Norway and Sweden. The associational conference of NSM takes place every third year in one of the Nordic countries. In August 2019, the University of Helsinki and the Finnish Institute in the Middle East (FIME) will be hosting the conference in Helsinki, the capital of Finland. The conference is the 30th anniversary celebration of NSMES.
The NSMES conference features three keynote speakers. The keynote lectures will be open for public free of charge. The keynote speakers are introduced here. Links for detailed programs for each day can be found here. All the sessions will take place at Metsätalo, Unioninkatu 40. The exact locations of each session will be published in August. Please note that updates are still possible.
The conference is open for participants beyond the Nordic countries. Registration for the audience is open until 5 August 2019. Register here.
