Tasavallan presidentti Kaarlo Juho Ståhlberg kuoli 22. syyskuuta Helsingissä. Hänet haudattiin viikkoa myöhemmin.

Eduskunnan puhemies K.-A. Fagerholm lausui muistopuheessaan, että presidenttinä Ståhlberg

"antoi hengen ja elämän uudelle valtiomuodollemme, joka niin suuressa määrin oli hänen aivojensa ja kynänsä luomus. Hän loi ne perinteet, joita suurin piirtein katsoen muuttumattomina noudatetaan vielä tänä päivänä. Hän loi presidentin viralle sen arvovallan ja ylevyyden, joka sillä yhä vieläkin on."

Presidentti K.J. Ståhlberg haudattiin 29. syyskuuta juhlallisin menoin.
