Observatorio
Tähtitornista tuli Tuomiokirkon ohella Turun maamerkki. Turku 1823. Carl von Kügelgenin kivipiirros. Museovirasto.
C.L. Engelin suunnittelema observatorio eli tähtitorni valmistui Turkuun. Se oli ensimmäinen Suomessa ja teki näin mahdolliseksi taivaankappaleiden tarkan seurannan myös täällä. Siitä puuttui kuitenkin kiertotorni, mikä rajoitti havaintojen tekoa. Tähtitiedettä saattoi opiskella Turun yliopistossa.
