Nimityksiä

Nils Abraham Gylden nimitettiin yliopiston kirjallisuuden apulaiseksi. Virkaa haki myös J.L. Runeberg, joka oli hyvin pettynyt siihen, että ei saanut virkaa.

Historian professoriksi nimitettiin Gabriel Rein. Hän ohitti ennakkosuosikin Reinhold von Beckerin. Tämä sai kuitenkin professorin arvon. Rein esitti professorinväitöskirjassaan De loco, quo arma Tavastis illaturus, appulerit Birgerus dux vastoin Messeniuksen kantaa, että Birger jaarli oli noussut maihin Suomenlahden rannikolla.

J.J. Nordström valittiin valtio-oikeuden, kansainvälisen oikeuden ja kansantaloustieteen professoriksi.

Yliopiston musiikinopettajan toimeen ei löytynyt ketään sopivaa henkilöä kotimaasta. Niinpä siihen kutsuttiin saksalainen Fredrik Pacius. Hän oli viulistina Tukholman hoviorkesterissa.
