Asia vaatii Saksan asevoimien tilanteen analysoinnin vuosilta 1939-41.
Amerikkalainen eversti ja tutkija Robert Doughty on todennut mm. seuraavaa:
"German doctrinal innovation was due more to the unfavorable situation Germany faced rather than to any "revolution" in technology or concepts of warfare. Their planning the 1940 campaign did not expect a swift, easy defeat of France nor was its success solely attributable to technology, specifically tanks and airpower. Rather, the campaign had modest objectives, German strategy and tactics were extremely important, and the infantry played a critical role in its success "
"The crossing of the Meuse River was also very difficult and its outcome might have been different were it not for some remarkable successes by a few German forces. The movement of armored units across the river was far slower than anticipated and German commanders submitted false reports about their progress and the vulnerability of the bridgehead".
Ilmaiskut harhauttivat tahattomasti Ranskan sodanjohtoa painopisteen valinnassa.
"German air attacks also confused French commanders about the location of advancing forces and contributed to the collapse of the French 55th Division defending the Meuse. However, German airpower accounted for little of the destruction on the ground nor did its use in the 1940 campaign mark the advent of a fundamentally new way of warfare."
Sotapropaganda synnytti tämän myytin, viholliset ja Saksan sodanjohto itse alkoivat uskoa tähän."Such confidence contrasts sharply with the German high command’s far more sober analysis of the successful 1939 attack on Poland, which generated substantial pessimism among military leaders because of the many deficiencies that it had revealed."

John Mosier
Toinen tutkija John Mosier on samaa mieltä. Kirjassaan "The Blitzkrieg Myth" hän nostaa esille kiistattomat tosiasiat mm. Saksan asevoimien suhteellisesta heikkoudesta.
Sen sijaan he harjoittivat laajemman rintaman strategiaa hyökkäämällä eri paikoissa samaan aikaan paikallisen ylivoiman avulla.Mosier tackles two "myths" in this book: the power of armored warfare and the power of strategic air bombing. Mosier shows that, despite what we have been told, Germany did not have a clear superiority in tanks at the beginning of the war, and that the Germans did not subscribe to the "Blitzkrieg" strategy to invade Poland and France. Instead, he demonstrates how a large portion of German military funding before the war was spent on fortifications on the French frontier, much like the French did with the Maginot line (and which the French have historically been criticized for doing). Thus, German tanks were small in number (the French actually had more, despite conventional wisdom) and many were obsolete by the time the war started.
"They did not use armored spearheads to inflict panic on Allied rear areas. Instead, they used a broad-front strategy, attacking in many different places at the same time, overwhelming the defenses and making it so they couldn't react. When they did attempt the Breakthrough strategy, it never worked or caused huge casualties when it did work (like the airborne drops on Belgium and Holland). In point of fact, Hitler was one of the few Germans who believed in the Breakthrough doctrine, and he attempted to use the strategy once he took over military affairs. He tried it twice (Avaranches in France and the Battle of the Bulge in Belgium), and both times the result was a hastened German defeat. Allied generals who tried the strategy inevitably found that the Germans were able to quickly shift defenses to halt the attacks. If Hitler hadn't wasted German resources on futile offensives, the Germans could have held on a lot longer than they finally did."
"It is often opined that truth is the first casualty of war. On the contrary it would be more accurate to say that truth is the first casualty of the theories of war."

Lopuksi viittaus Saksan 4.panssaridivisioonan historiaan. Divisioonahan oli Saksan ensimmäisiä ja osallistui mm. Puolan sotaretkeen. Siitä tässä lyhyt ote Wikipedian kautta:
Saksan 4.panssaridivisioonan historia kertoo mm. Puolan sotaretkestä seuraavaa:
Suomennos"The German tanks proved to be inadequately armoured and the Poles inflicted heavy casualties on the German unit and repulsed most of its units, which lost roughly 160 vehicles in the battle (between 70 and 100 of them being tanks), mostly to Polish-made Bofors 37 mm anti-tank artillery and Kb ppanc wz.35 anti-tank rifles"
"Saksan panssarivaunut osoittautuivat riittämättömästi panssaroiduiksi ja puolalaiset aiheuttivat raskaita tappioita saksalaisyksikölle, joka menetti suunnilleen 160 ajoneuvoa taistelussa (70-100 niistä tankkeja) pääasiallisesti puolalaisten Bofors 37mm-tykkien ym. takia"
