Suuri Hirttämätön

Gustaf Wilhelm Ladau nimitettiin 21. syyskuuta postitirehtööriksi ja samalla hallituskonseljin jäseneksi. Hän oli yksi niistä upseereista, jotka ehtivät vaihtaa puolta monta kertaa. Hän osallistui aikanaan Anjalan liittoon, minkä vuoksi tuomittiin kuolemaan Ruotsissa. Ladau siirtyi Venäjälle, mistä palasi Suomeen 1808 Buxhoevdenin kansliapäällikkönä. Hän sai takaisin kansalaisuutensa ja aatelisarvonsa. Venäjälle luotettavana miehenä hänen johtoonsa uskottiin maan postilaitos ja siihen liittyen postisensuuri.

Läheiset suhteet venäläisiin ja innokkuus valvoa myös hallituksen jäsenten kirjeenvaihtoa tuotti Ladaulle lisänimen "Suuri Hirttämätön".1
