Supported by the Research Council of Finland’s research profiling funds the Research Institute of the University of the Arts Helsinki is arranging the international conference Artist Pedagogy and Artistic Thinking: Perspectives and Practices Conference in Helsinki between 27 – 29 August 2026 with a Post-reflection and Future Orientations online event on 4 September 2026 in Zoom. The event addresses current approaches to artist pedagogy with an interest in how artistic thinking both emerges from and influences teaching and education in the arts. At the same time, it examines what we have held on to and why and asks how artist pedagogy should develop to meet future societal circumstances and challenges. The shared discussion on these themes is advanced through 4 keynote presentations and 46 presentations including posters, paper presentations, lecture-demonstrations and workshops.

Al-An deSouza, Professor of Photography and former department Chair of Art Practice at University of California, Berkeley
Jaana Erkkilä-Hill, visual artist, researcher and Professor of Visual Arts at the University of Lapland
Dr. Heidi Westerlund, Professor of Music Education at the Sibelius Academy of the University of the Arts Helsinki, and Adjunct Professor at Monash University, Australia
Dr. Guadalupe López-Íñiguez, musician and University Researcher at the Sibelius Academy, University of the Arts Helsinki
Dr. Tuulikki Laes, University Researcher at the University of the Arts Helsinki
Isabel Galleymore, Associate Professor in Creative Writing at the University of Birmingham and a British poet and scholar specializing in environmental literature
