The purpose of the Nordic History Book Award is to stimulate historical interest in the Nordic region. It will be given to the author of the most innovative and thoughtful recent work in Nordic history. The Award winner will be announced at the Congress of Nordic Historians, held every third or fourth year, next time in Reykjavik (Iceland) in August 2025.
The Award has been initiated by the Committee of Nordic Historians, consisting of representatives of the national historical associations. The first award was given at the 29th Congress of Nordic Historians in Aalborg 2017.
Who can nominate?
Authors or publishing houses nominate books about Nordic history. Nordic history is in this respect defined as the history of the Nordic region (in other words: the history of one Nordic country does not apply).
There are no limitations regarding topics or historical periods. Both monographs and edited volumes can be submitted. Books can be in the Nordic languages (including Finnish and Icelandic) or in English, German, or French.
Books should be published in the period from the last Congress of Nordic Historians. This call for nominations covers the period 2021–May 2025.
How to nominate?
If you want to nominate a book for the Nordic History Book Award, please send a cover letter and an electronic copy to: ghalfd@hi.is.
Deadline: 31 May 2025. Nominations will be evaluated by a group of distinguished experts in Nordic
history.

Syftet med det nordiska historikerbokspriset är att stimulera intresset för Nordens historia som region. Priset tilldelas författaren/författarna till en innovativ, nyskapande och tankeväckande bok i nordisk historia. Priset utdelas vid det nordiska historikermötet, som arrangeras vart tredje till fjärde år. Nästa möte arrangeras i Reykjavik 13-15.8.2025.
Priset är instiftat på initiativ av Den nordiska historikerkommittén, som består av representanter för de nationella historiska samfunden. Priset delades ut för första gången 2017 vid det nordiska historikermötet i Aalborg.
Vem kan nomineras för priset?
Författare och förlag kan nominera böcker om nordisk historia. Med Nordisk historia menas i detta sammanhang verk som behandlar Norden i en vidare mening än endast ett nordiskt land.
Det finns inga begränsningar vad gäller ämne eller tidsperiod. Både monografier och antologier kan sändas in, och de kan vara författade på nordiska språk (svenska, norska, danska, isländska, finska), engelska, tyska eller franska.
Böckerna ska ha utkommit under perioden 2021–maj 2025.
