We are pleased to invite you to a collaborative academic workshop on the future of automated video analysis in research. Over the past months, we have built the first functional version of VAA1 – Video Analysis Automation 1.0, an open and modular tool that dramatically reduces the time, energy, and manual work typically required in video analysis.
Video is now foundational across the social sciences, digital humanities, media studies, and beyond – yet most researchers still face slow, fragmented, or closed tools that limit what can be done. VAA1 changes this situation by offering a unified pipeline that transforms video into structured, research-ready data, combining metadata extraction, transcription, object and expression recognition, and quantitative and qualitative text features into one accessible workflow.
What the workshop offers:
A hands-on demonstration of the current VAA1 prototype – participants will have direct access to the tool and can try it with their own material.
A collaborative development session – we will map domain-specific needs and co-design the next feature set together. Our developer team will be present, ready to explore new ideas and experiment with improvements on the spot.
Our guiding principle is simple:
When researchers share their methods, best practices, and insights, the entire community advances.
Your participation, your domain expertise, and your workflow challenges will directly shape the next iteration of the tool. This is an opportunity not only to benefit from automation but also to influence how open, transparent, and researcher-driven video analysis will look in the coming years.
